FAQ's
1. What is chair yoga?
Chair yoga is a gentle, accessible form of yoga where movements are done seated or using the chair for support. It’s designed to help improve mobility, strength, balance, posture, and relaxation in a safe and supportive way.
2. Do I need any previous yoga experience?
No experience is needed. Chair yoga is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have practised before. Every movement is offered as an invitation, and you can go at your own pace.
3. Is chair yoga suitable if I have limited mobility or a health condition?
Many people with limited mobility or existing health conditions enjoy chair yoga. Please listen to your body and only do what feels comfortable. If you’re unsure, you may wish to check with your GP or healthcare provider before joining.
4. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that allow you to move freely. You don’t need special yoga gear — everyday comfortable clothing is perfectly fine.
5. Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself and a bottle of water. Chairs and any other necessary equipment are provided. If you enjoy extra comfort, you’re welcome to bring a small cushion or blanket.
6. Can I take breaks during the class?
Absolutely. Taking breaks is always encouraged. Listening to your body is a key part of the practice.
7. What if I can’t do a movement?
Every instruction is an option, not a requirement. Movements can be adapted, skipped, or done in your own way. Your comfort and safety come first.
8. Will we do any standing poses?
Some sessions may include optional gentle standing movements using the chair for support. These are always optional, and you are welcome to remain seated for the entire class.
9. Will every class be the same?
Each class lasts 45 minutes, and while the structure is familiar, the movements will change slightly each week. Sessions follow gentle themes through the seasons, so you can expect small, supportive variations designed to improve overall mobility and keep the practice fresh.
10. Is chair yoga still beneficial compared to mat-based yoga?
Yes. Chair yoga offers many of the same benefits — improved flexibility, strength, balance, circulation, posture, and relaxation — while being more accessible and joint-friendly.
11. Do I need to sign anything before joining?
Yes. There is a gentle disclaimer for your safety and clarity. By adding the date, you confirm you have read and agreed to the terms, including listening to your body, participating at a comfortable pace, and seeking medical advice if needed.
12. What do I do if I have further questions?
If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch. You can reach me through the Contact page, or directly by email at sophie.yoga.wilson@gmail.com or by phone/text on 07903 634 632. I’ll always do my best to get back to you within 24 hours, however you choose to contact me.

Lovely gentle yoga session, easily adapted to suit individual abilities. Attended this as a reintroduction to yoga after abdominal surgery: it was just perfect, particularly as it was completely chair focused with no need to get onto the floor at all. All equipment was provided including a mat (for standing on), various sized blocks, and of course the chair. Very welcoming, friendly and easy to follow instruction.
